Hearing Loop Assistive Listening System

Shanahan is pleased to be one of the first companies in New England to sell and install hearing loops, an assistive listening device, to help hearing-impaired audience members enjoy clear, discrete, personalized sound. An induction loop system delivers audio from a sound system directly to telecoil-equipped hearing aids and cochlear implants. The telecoil serves as an antenna to relay sounds directly into the ear without background noise.

We are an authorized reseller and installer of induction loop assistive listening technology systems and devices through our strategic partnership with New England Hearing Loop. The hearing loop systems are ideal for churches, concert halls, theaters, meeting rooms, courtrooms, classrooms and any other space that provides audio information or entertainment to the public.

RF Assistive Listening System

A radio frequency system is generally more dependable at a slightly higher cost than an IR system.  The RF system does not operate on line-of-sight but rather range – typically a 300ft radius before needing to add additional antenna.  Anyone within that range will receive reliable signal, and RF waves pass through the human body so large crowds do not affect the performance of the RF system.  Wherever you may sit or stand – as long as you are in range of the antenna you are receiving a quality signal.  Positioning is not very important in an RF system, so in rooms which are frequently modified or where listeners may be freely moving about, this solution is ideal.

IR Assistive Listening System

Infrared systems operate on a line-of-sight basis so they will not work when the receiver is not within VISIBLE range of the transmitter.  A single transmitter can cover a large venue however the human body is impervious to IR waves so we block the signal to our own devices.  Depending on where someone sits or stands you can have reception issues and loss of signal is more common the larger the audience gets as people block the IR signal from their own receiver.  Positioning is very important with these systems, however this is also the idea solution when privacy/security is highest as only those within the room can receive the signal.
